- Hmmm... This is an interesting one. I haven't seen this problem, but I AM
- running in exactly the mode you describe right at this moment, i.e. WFW
- 3.11 with NetBEUI, IPX/SPX compatible transport with NetBIOS, and
- TCP/IP-32 (beta2 "Daytona" release). Also, we have a Windows NT Adv.
- Server and I am connected to it. At least I can tell you what components
- of your system are NOT the problem: the answer is NONE of the above.
- I realize this is not great help, thus far. I looked up the duplicate name
- thing in the WFW Resource Kit for 3.11 (well worth buying): they only
- mention a problem that occurs when there's a Windows NT machine in
- your workgroup "If you specify a computername that is the same as
- another computer on the network or the same as a workgroup or a domain,
- the network will not start when you run Windows NT." Incidentally, a WFW
- machine will not remember names as you suspected, but an NTAS might!
- Do you have and NTAS in your group? I should mention that ours runs
- entirely with NetBEUI - I only loaded the IPX-NetBIOS stuff to troubleshoot
- your problem. That brings up another point - What do you need the IPX-
- NetBIOS transport for? If you use NetBEUI and unload the IPX stuff every-
- thing on your WFW network is about 3-5 time faster (e.g. connecting drives,
- browsing, opening drive windows for net drives). I'd recommend trashing
- IPX, but you state that you have to have it. Which brings up the next obvious
- question: "For what?" Do you have some other network running, also?
- Maybe there's a conflict with that stuff? Don't know how much this did or
- didn't help, but you can e-mail me directly if you think it might help.
